Theory In a multi-threaded application the memory footprint can be increased because each thread might have its own memory footprint. In such scenarios you need to determine which parts of the code/program are responsible for creating a new object and filling up the memory. This is what we call “object allocation” in memory profiling. The concept is easy to understand. You may have a simple application (e.g. a class that has one static field), then the memory footprint should be 0. However if you create 10 instances of this class, the memory will increase by 10.
